![]() ![]() The new additions and graphics upgrades make the game even more exciting and fun to experience. I only suggest getting into the game with an open mind and pull through the first three chapters. The Final Sayĭeath Stranding Director’s Cut is a wonderful game to play for newcomers and worth upgrading for returning players. It's a convoluted process that didn’t have to be so time-consuming. ![]() You need to first download or install the PS4 version, then upload the save file to the cloud and then download/install the PS5 version to download your file save. If you’re upgrading from the PS4, you have a cumbersome process to go through to bring over your save file as well. While the new additions do change the overall experience, I strongly believe it should have at least been a free upgrade for PS4 players who already own the game. There’s very little to dislike about the Director’s Cut, however since this game is getting a re-release on the PlayStation 5 and an upgrade path for PS4 owners, I would have liked to see some more story DLC. I do have to say that the loading times have been drastically improved from the previous version but it isn’t near-instant like other games. For 4K performance, I switched to my TV and found the game running anywhere between 35-40 FPS most of the time. My main gaming monitor is 1440p in resolution and it was an absolute delight to explore the world in those high frames. ![]() ![]() It’s exactly what you would expect it to be and it really does add to the immersion.ĭeath Stranding Director’s Cut also has a performance mode where you can play the game at 60 FPS. For starters, I love the implementation of the haptic feedback and trigger resistance on the DualSense controller. Since this is a dedicated PlayStation 5 version of Death Stranding, there are ought to be some exclusive features that you won’t get to experience on the PS4 or the PC. There are some very meaningful additions here that could make your experience on the PlayStation 5 worthwhile.ĭeath Stranding Director’s Cut: PlayStation 5 Upgrades This isn’t really a side activity though since there are some story bits that get unravelled which you should definitely check out. If you’re a Metal Gear fan, there’s now a special area where you can stealthily explore the area just like you would in previous Kojima games. You can even race a car on roads now as a side activity if you just want to relax. In my opinion, these new mechanics make the game far more interesting for those who probably didn’t like the first iteration of the game. You can also hand off your packages to the ‘Buddy Bot’ or ride on the back of it if you’re not in the mood to walk and soak in the scenery. For starters, you can now catapult a big package closer to your destination so that you can either carry more packages or not have to carry any at all. I do have to say that the Director’s Cut will be a far easier experience than what we went through in the base game. However, it is worth pointing out that you can only receive as much help as you provide - the entire mechanic is truly based on an honour system that you must abide by. That is the core essence of this game, making your life and other’s life easier. Some mechanics outright make your life easier so that you can deliver more goodies in less time. While that was the experience in the original version, the new mechanics add a new layer to the overall gameplay. Some people may leave a handy ladder, built a road or an entire bridge to make your path easier. In the base game, you would have to traverse impossible environments to reach the next installation with the help of infrastructure made by other players who passed by before you. In fact, with new mechanics that have been added with this version, it may even be worthwhile to check out the game again. The story of Sam Bridges and a plot about connecting with players they never see, the core remains intact in the new Director’s Cut much like it does on the PC and base version. While many classified the game as a “walking simulator” in 2019, what happens in between those journeys is what the game is all about. Now, with new features, game-changing mechanics and updated graphics, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut may as well be the definitive version of the game.ĭeath Stranding at its core is about going from one point to the other, while delivering goodies to bases. I played the game on the PC last year and found it to be an enjoyable experience even though I skipped the PlayStation 4 version when it came out. Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding was a very unique game that came out in 2019 and left many of his fans divided. ![]()
